Introducing Myself

Since I am new to the group, it would probably be good to give a short intro and a couple of examples of my work. I live in the heart of the Ozarks of Southern Missouri, on 10 acres of heaven in the middle of nowhere. I am an Air Force veteran, a mother and grandmother, wife to the sweetest man alive, retired chef. I have been quilting in the traditional sense for about 25 years, but got interested in art quilting about 8 years ago and have slowly immersed myself in this new passion. What fascinates me is the variety of technique, the way this art form allows for such wonderful expression, and the great variety of raw materials that can be used. While I am, at heart, a bit of a minimalist, I am fascinated with what I see happening in all areas of the art quilt world.

This piece is currently on exhibit at PNQE, with Stretching Art and Tradition. The photos are done with TAP and also printed on silk organza. They are mounted on a background that is pieced, hand dyed, hand painted, and stencilled, then the whole is machine quilted. It is named "Strong Women" and is a tribute to the women, past and present, who have enriched my life.

This is my contribution to the House Quilt Project. It will go to a wounded soldier. I used water colors painted on fabric that was soaked in soy milk for the trees and the house elements. The background is handpainted cotton and cotton osnaberg. The flag is topped with two layers of silk organza.

I am thrilled to be a part of this group, and look forward to getting to know its members!

Auction Quilt Sold

My SAQA donation piece was sold to an art consultant.  I sent her a personal thank you and she in return  told me it will be framed and displayed in a health care environment on Cape Cod. How cool is that?
You can see it HERE
Do you have an art quilt donation in the auction?
